Something similar happened to me a few years back.Except it didn't get as far as organising a wedding, and the cause was clearer: she'd got tired of me and had progressed onto her much older but far more desirable boss. Naturally I kicked off about this, and while I was out at work she went sobbing to the police accusing me of assault. Because of that single accusation, I lost my job, a roof over my head, any immediate chance of a future career and a lot of my sanity too.
