My mate did the same thing a few years ago,Left sunny N.Ireland and lived in a hostel for 3 months hoping to find work in Edinburgh and save money. He hated it, ended up at my mates place almost every night hoping they would let him move into their one bedroom cupboard. They just didn't have the space.
He eventually moved home and was able to buy a house within 6 months of finding work, go figure.
