british gas wouldn't have done that.you're probably thinking of national grid, southern/scotia gas networks, transco, wales & west utilities or one of them lot depending on where you live.
you should probably try complaining to one of them as complaining to british gas would be in vain.

I was told by the reliable local council it was indeed British Fass. I didn't believe her.
