Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Yoshimura Big bore kit and exhaust help but they're always going to be slow.

(once you've fixed the camchain so it doesn't end up in the sump and maybe altered the gearing - erk! bike pedantry)

I thought my 550-K4 was just about perfect. Nippy, light, comfortable, reasonable running costs; still fell off it, of course.

Triumph? Hack! Cough! Spit! I made a '67 Bonneville oiltight and it repaid me by being the bike I pushed the furthest. Oh, mind you, there was the Honda 750 which stripped its final drive and had to be pushed from Scalby to Scarborough station.
