The USA(not counting Alaska) is all further south than the UK. Seattle, which is pretty much the most northerly major city, up in the top left corner, is on roughly the same latitude as Paris.
The southern states reach down much further. The tip of Florida is near the Tropic of Cancer (fittingly!)
