DIY disasters
I just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.
Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

chuck keys
always remember DT at school the teacher would say always make sure the chuck key isnt attached to the drill before u move it make sure its out and on a chain , becuase it will fly off and rip some one a new arsehole in there head, que myself keeping chuck key , key then flying out and tremendous speed across the class room narrowly missing peoples heads before embedding in the cardbord box, i quickly and discreetly wedged it out the box and never used it again

damn D&T teachers
you think having being told to keep the chuck key out is bad?
My entire first year of technology consisted of a teacher with HUGE eyebrows shouting at us that the on/off button on the computer monitors has "a limited amount of presses".
Cut back to me cursing his wrinkly retired ass about wasting an entire year and hastily doing my D&T GCSE coursework within half the allocated time!

Lathes...
A friend of mine at school did that with a lathe and was very lucky it got flung away from him. Cue one apoplectic techy teacher (hello Mr Quaye!) and lots of shouting for the rest of the double period.
