DIY disastersI just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.
Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

I agree with ViprosI change my strings about once a month (I get sweaty mitts playing and never bother to wipe the strings after) and always take all of the old strings off before replacing. I've never had problems with intonation or balance.
The only reason I could see this happening is that you need to loosen or tighten the springs behind the trem. Another option is to jam a few beer mats behind the trem before you remove the strings so it still floats.
