DIY disasters
I just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.
Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

Mother's best friend
has re-built 2 condemned houses from the ground up. Including plumbing and electrical. She has no formal training in any of this. Because she sold both houses, and because American standards during an inspection of the property before the sale of a house (by professionals) are so high, I can infom you that there was not a single thing wrong with either house.
She is over 70 now and working on her 3rd house.
I have tact, so I won't insult you, I'll just say: try not to paint with such a broad brush next time.
