This is a question Driven to Madness

Captain Placid asks: What annoying things do significant others, workmates and other people in general do that drive you up the wall? Do you want to kill your other half over their obsessive fridge magnet collection? Driven to distraction over your manager's continued use of Comic Sans (The Font of Champions)? Tell us.

I've taken to actually stopping cyclists I see jumping red lights
or riding on the pavement.

I worry about what they do to my blood pressure, but it makes me absolutely fucking livid.

With a stout stick through their spokes, I hope

Damned tempted.
As it is I tend to simply turn and block their path, grabbing their handlebars to stop them if necessary.

Didn't we have this one before
where some ninja was karateing cyclists into lamp posts?
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 15:27, closed)
No.
He mounted the pavement at a narrow spot and came right at me.
A side step, gentle push and help from gravity was all it took to same be from being hit.

What annoys me more than anything is how anyone feels they can defend cycling fast or dangerously on a busy pavement, or jumping the lights.

It was good to see that the cyclist that had stopped at the lights in the case I mentioned (around 5 or 6 of them) were all on my side. I don't hate cyclists, just fuckwits.

We weren't defending the cyclist
we were taking the piss out of your hong kong phooey impression.
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 16:48, closed)
No, you weren't
No "Hong Kong Phooey" was mentioned. At all.

Only when someone said they'd lump one on me if I did that to them, did I mention it may not be a good idea.

If I remember rightly, a fair few actual matrial arts exponents here expressed the same views as me. It was only the uneducated that attempted to take the piss.

I suppose I should have raised it as something that drives me to madness; people with no idea what they are talking about claiming some internet victory not by reasoned debate but just by low-end wit.

I'm not saying you're guilty, but a lot of people here are. It wouldn't be so bad if it was actually funny...
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 16:57, closed)
Heh.
It was only the uneducated huh?

That's your problem. You are so convinced that you're right about everything, that you assume people only disagree with you because they are badly informed.

Needless to say, you have no idea how arrogant that makes you sound, even if you do attempt (unsuccessfully) to wrap it all up in a veneer of reasonable and calm tone.

The fact you have to rabidly answer every post with a page and a half of how you're Bruce Lee's teacher tells us a lot. You're not calm, you're not reasonable, you're nothing like any experienced and highly qualified martial arts instructor I've ever met. But then I have never actually felt the need to brag about who I am, so nobody can really say if I am a good judge or not.

I'm calling bullshit. Again.
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 17:14, closed)
Oh dear.
You're only wrong if you say something's untrue. Like the assumptions you clearly like to make.

I've never said (and I'd like to see a grain of proof) that I'm anything like Bruce Lee's teacher.

And as you've never met me, it's a bit much to say I'm nothing like any highly qualified instructor you've ever met. I know a fair few, and I couldn't say I'd recognise any from just short posts over the internet.

Call bullshit all you like. It doesn't make you any the more right. Does make you look like the arrogant prick though!

EDIT: Don't mean to be rude, but it's the theme of the week. I do get annoyed (to a degree) when someone does the "la la la bullshit" to a post to get a rise. It's the sort of thing that stops people posting unusual and interesting stories.
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 17:24, closed)
So stop responding.

(, Mon 8 Oct 2012, 8:36, closed)
Stop responding to unfounded accusations?
I'm sure you'd take it as some victory, and at the same time it would mean you didn't have to answer any reasonable questions or prove yourself.
(, Mon 8 Oct 2012, 14:25, closed)
Are you actually serious?
Both the references to Bruce Lees teacher and Hong Kong Phooey are me taking the piss. Anyone bored enough to still be reading this, apart from you apparently, will understand that.
(, Mon 8 Oct 2012, 16:09, closed)
There's a thin line
Between taking the piss, and just making yourself look like a trolling cunt.

At least if you're going to take the piss make it amusing.
(, Mon 8 Oct 2012, 17:02, closed)
lol

(, Mon 8 Oct 2012, 17:05, closed)
"does your mam not let you ride on the road"
often works round here
although I occasionally get told to fuck off
so I tell the dog to kill and he barks like crazy and scares the fuck out of them.
(, Fri 5 Oct 2012, 22:22, closed)
I'm a cyclist
and I love cycling on the pavements and going through red lights and do it with a smile and a cheery wave. Ha ha! Wheeeeeee!
