This applies equally to escalators
There is no reason why you should need to stop dead at the top of the escalator. I have no alternative but to walk into/over you.

Happened to me last week
Bottom of the escalators, the woman with a pushchair stopped, turned it sideways and began to tuck her child in.
As myself and umpteen other commuters did an unrehearsed 'upstairs backwards jog'.
