I always keep a spoon with me, even though I feel I should keep a towel. I'm never quite sure why I carry spoons around with me, but there they are in my bag, small ones, plastic ones, ice cream ones.
It may be to do with the fact that my favourite and utterly useless phrase in German was:
"Excuse me, do you have a small plastic spoon please?"
I once managed to say this in context while I was on the Munich Metro and about to eat a yoghurt. I was foiled by the fact that the innocent commuter by my side had NO SPOONS!
I carry the spoons in case some unfortunate language student is ever caught in the same predicament as I.
Yes, me! I have small plastic spoons! And large ones! And this silver spoon I found abandonned in the ruins of the German Hospice! ASK ME FOR SPOOONS!!!!!
