Deadbolts
are locks that can't be opened from either side. Click 1 would enable someone inside the car to open the doors.
Most cars can be reprogrammed to act differently. Google some forums for your make/model - if it's a really irritating problem, chances are someone will have posted about it.
Mine has about 15 different locking permutations that you can chop and change around via a menu.
