Is that sarcasm?If not, how is it sensible?
I'm not meaning to sound like an arse, just I always discredited my (grand)parents telling me this because I was under the assumption the trapped air between your clothing layers would warm up inside, thus keeping you warmer outside.

ButYou're then going from whatever temperature it is inside plus a few more degrees into whatever it is outside, so it'll actually feel colder because of it being a bigger difference.
But if you go outside, then put your coat on, it's a smaller difference and you're then warming yourself up, so you'll feel warmer than you were before putting the coat on.
Least, I believe that's how it's meant to work
