"Never ski off piste alone"
If I'd crashed ten feet further down the mountain, I would have fallen into a river and died. As it was, I was very, very lucky not to break my leg. I was limping for nearly a month, and I don't ski alone off piste any more, however tempting it is.

I'd go one further
Never ski off-piste without a guide.

I did some awesome guided backcountry stuff is Les Deux Alpes this year. Had I not that avalanche may have killed me. Even though it was a relatively small one.

I ski off piste all the time
just make sure you know what you're doing
