hah, the hoadi'm from barrow, and every time we went through ulverston when i was a kid my dad would tell me that it was a real lighthouse, because the whole area used to be underwater. he told the story far better than i did though.
oh, and when it was foggy he used to tell me that they'd taken it down for cleaning. (and i know people who still use that one on their kids)
