I think......that it's human nature to convince people of things that aren't true once in a while. Firstly, it makes people feel more intelligent/less gullible than the person they're having on; and secondly, people need to realise they'd been lied to once in a while otherwise they'd believe everything they were told by everybody (i.e. authorities), and that would be dangerous...
