My grandparents keep the plastic coversfrom the sofa they bought about 20 years ago and put them on whenever my siblings and I come over. They have been doing it since I was 8, my sister 6 and my brother 1. It must have become habit because we are all in our 20's and they still seem to think we are likely to smear stuff over their brand new 20 year old furniture.
