I'm sort of with you on the light switchesI don't necessarily mind which direction is on or off but my parents had a double switch in their hall, one did the hall lights and one the landing (which also had a second switch upstairs). I always had to run up and down the stairs to make sure if both sets of lights were off the switches pointed in the same direction. Otherwise it's just messy.
