How does he (and mrs Trance)count five way direction+ok buttons, or rocker volume updown?

I do this too but i keep forgetting the numberI count a volume button with an up and down as two, a one piece d-pad type botton as 4 etc...
i do it to mobiles too - hated the nokia 3410 because of it
