Apart from the obvious congratulationslet me just say you're right in having a small ceremony if that's what you want.
I got married last weekend and there were only four people there apart from the wife and I. It was wonderful.
Amazed though at the cost of the civil ceremony - we got married for £43, excluding the cost of the registration which I think was £30 each. Sounds like your council are taking the piss.

YupI got married for next to nowt in the council offices in Hawick in 2000.
