Oh lord this is me to a ridiculous degree...
In my back yard I have a portable blacksmith forge, a large box of old neon tubing, a pottery wheel, a gas-fired kiln, and a shed stuffed with tools for just about everything. The side shed has about 150 kilos of stained glass sheets and about fifty traffic light lenses. Under the house are two oxy-acetylene torch sets that I sometimes use.

And why do I have all this crap? Because I think of something really cool to do with these things, but then get pulled away by other demands in life, so they just sit there.

I have to either get really busy building things or putting things into the dumpster down the road...

The stained glass will likely stay.
Most of it came from here, but some of it came from Wissmach. The latter I could let go without too much heartbreak, but the Youghiogheny is pretty special stuff.

The traffic light lenses I'm discouraged by. They're almost a centimeter thick with a heavy texture, which makes them impossible to score and snap- they have to be cut with a saw. They require a lot of effort, so I'm not sure what to do with those yet. Got any suggestions?

Heat in forge, pound flatter, make platters?
The colours are problematic as they are quite obviously just the one thing, a traffic light. Not really artsy in my view ;) Utilitarian instead.

I like your ambition. Good luck with that, and post if you ever do get around to your projects. Any local art schools/groups? They'd love you for sharing your hoard!

The colors are very nice, though.
The red is a true ruby red, the yellow is a butterscotch amber, and the green is actually teal. They're 12" diameter and 8" diameter.

I've seen them slumped in a kiln to make dishes, but really wanted to do something different with them. I can cut them with a tile saw, but as mentioned that takes ages and is messy besides.

The one really cool thing I got from that traffic light diving binge was a series of fresnel lenses. They're plastic, which makes them useless from making something out of them, but they can magnify and concentrate sunlight enough to make leaves spontaneously combust!

I find churches fascinating.
The most elaborate and eye-catching buildings in sight, which were hideously expensive to build and often took multiple lifetimes to complete, were erected for the benefit of an invisible consciousness. Think of the money and time and lives invested in building something for someone who may not even exist. And the artwork contained in them, in statuary and stained glass windows? Amazing.

It gives me a strange mix of admiration and horror.

As for the abuse- this site can no longer be considered fluffy, which is sad. Being a twat to others seems to have become de rigeur.
