I sympathise about the not wanting to tidy thing
I just sorted out 10 years worth of magazines, school work, drawings etc which I'd been keeping in my nanny's spare room. The only reason I managed to motivate myself to do it was because I felt guilty for taking up her space. It was all stuff I'd thought I could never chuck, and a total roomful... and two days later all the stuff I wanted to keep was in 2 small(ish) boxes in my car.
