Willenium says: I had to bring some floppy disks into work which I had been saving for 10 years "in case I might need them". Tell us when your hoarding skills have come in useful (or not, as the case may be)

I have inherited my parent's mantra of "well, we might need it some day." I gather twine, old rope, old shoelaces and funnily enough, use them often. I keep old planting pots because I may need to transplant something.
I have wires and cables and out of date connectors because I don't want to buy more if I need them, and at least I can use them to tie something up if needed (see above). I've noticed old guitar cables are great for tying up branches of trees I've pruned.
I also keep old ID cards and driver's licenses from years past as well as business cards from jobs I've long since left. Those are used as bookmarks, so that's something.
The sad thing is I have thing in boxes (old textbooks, class notes, lawbooks, etc.) I've moved across the United States several times certain that at some future time they will be of use to someone.
I really need to hire a dumpster.

In fact, the website told me to cut it in half and post it back to the DVLA to avoid prosecution

I have a few as well as school photo IDs. It's like a menagerie of ill-advised hair and clothing styles.
Oh, and the ever-failed attempt at smiling so that I don't look like an axe murderer.

Plant pots are expensive! When you have dozens of plants in need of potting out, you soon realise how much of a rip off Homebase and such is - something like a quid per pot. I get the smaller ones from the 99p shop, but I've stopped chucking them away. I've even contemplated knocking on people's doors when they have loads of old ones in their front gardens, and asking if I can have them. But er, that means talking to people and I don't do that. But needs must when you decide to go on ebay and buy fucking hundreds of chilli plants, I suppose.

Like more plants, potting soil, plant pots, and even a tree. Of course, it's just being neighborly, so there's a double benefit.
And humans aren't that bad. Most welcome a little human contact in our day and age.

I've also got a good size ziplock full of shoelaces - turns out they come in handy all the time. A good bit of string with nice finished ends. And available in an assortment of colors.
