I'd just like to echo all the previous replies.Whilst not exactly pleasant, a vasectomy is not that big of a deal (childbirth is probably worse), is safer than the equivalent procedure for women, and removes the need to worry about other forms of contraception*.
That said, it's only really appropriate for those in a stable relationships who can be certain that they don't want any more kids.
*when you have young children, all sex is of the hurried kind
