Having spent some time in the army cadets I can confirm it's a military thingIf you didn't catch what someone said to you over a radio, the correct response is "Say again, over." This is (apparently) because "Repeat" is an artillery command and if you say that you might get mortared by mistake.
So yeah, I say "say again" mostly out of habit from those days, especially if I'm on the phone. Sorry, I didn't realise it was annoying.
