Irrational Hatred
People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

lost
no, not the t.v show, but when people say they've lost someone.
"oh yes, i lost my husband last year".
no, he died. losing implies that you might find him again. you won't. he's not shoved down the back of the sofa cushions or rammed in a kitchen drawer, he's dead.

Hurrah! I'm not alone!
I loathe euphemisms for "died", too.
I'm always tempted to ask "Where?" whenever someone tells me she "lost" someone close to her.

To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.

that's just reminded me of a Billy Connoley routine where he was talking about what people have on gravestones
'asleep'
"No! Dead!!"

You've never lost your cool?
Something that you once had and have no longer has become lost to you. It doesn't mean the same as misplaced (although a misplaced item has become lost). You can't misplace your cool or your temper and a knife cannot misplace its edge.
You can lose a loved one.
