rational numbers are a subset of real numbers, which in turn are a subset of complex numbersthe set of complex numbers comprises real numbers, imaginary numbers and numbers which consist of a real part plus an imaginary part
though you can get rational multiples of the imaginary root i (√-1), they are not "truly" rational numbers because they can't be expressed in terms of real numbers alone
