Not just the UKMy parents were once on holiday in Canada and the US. They were visiting people in Toronto and took a train to Michigan to see some other folk. The train broke down en route. However, they were allowed out of the carriage, but seeing as how this was in the middle of nowhere they couldn't actually go anywhere. So they had to stand out in 100°F heat for a couple of hours until the train got going again.
And then of course there was US immigration...
