Me dad did the vodka one, but with gin.He drank a full bottle of me mum's gin one night, and replaced it all with water, with the intention of buying another bottle at the end of the week. Unfortunately me mam had visitors and gave them all a drop of gin each, much to the confusion of the guests as they were taking sips and a "quiet confession to mum" in the kitchen from dad ensued. He actually tried to ride out the lie until they were drinking the water too, hoping they wouldn't notice lol
