This is a question Little Victories II

I once got bumped up to first class in the 90 minute leg of a 16 hour flight. Tell us about your insignificant little triumphs and minor victories. (Driving a Honda Accord doesn't count).

He should've totes handed the 5 quid into the front desk.
They would have moved heaven and earth to find it's rightful owner. And the 50p.

If the customer services staff want to pocket it, it's their decision.

Yeah, in my experience retail companies don't look too kindly on thieves in their employ.
On hot food counters it's sometimes called 'grazing'. Guy I worked with was sacked because he was caught eating a roast chicken leg. Which would have been thrown away anyway as the shop had closed for the night and due to rota fuckups he hadn't had a break all day.

So if he'd waited 5 min. (or at least the time it took to pack up before everything's thrown in the bin) he would've had a free meal
and still kept his job?

If he'd waited for another hour worth of cleaning down and throwing away everything into sealed and numbered bags.
No free meal there unless he managed to smuggle it out in his pocket or something.

Ah. Big Business and their tax breaks.
I used to hate throwing food out (worked as storeman on the backdock for a big supermarket). Questioned it, as I knew there was a church soup kitchen down the road that would've benefited greatly. Got told "It's a tax write off.", essentially if they gave it away they'd lose the ability to write it off as a loss for tax purposes.
Greed over philanthropy every time.

This sounds about right, but as staff we used to get sold on the 'security' angle.
ie 'We trust them enough to frequently put them on the tills, but are still convinced that all of our staff are thieving cunts. So, if you record something broken, out of date, contaminated etc as waste, you must be able to trace which number bag it went into, and retrieve it from the skip the next day, just to prove you've thrown it away rather than take it home. Unless you can produce the item up until the time the skip lorry arrives, you're out of a job.'

Whilst at uni my flat mate worked at kfc and he says that they were allowed to eat a free meal if their shift crossed a meal break.
he also claims that one guy got sacked for theft because he swapped his meal with the guy who worked in the Burger King next door. retail companies are cunts. Another friend of mine was sacked from a "big w" because she was asked if she had ever eaten any of the food at he counter and she stupidly said "no not unless you count a cold chip" they did.
