Get yourself one of those Yale locks, with the latch.
I know as soon as I close my door it is "locked" (though not deadbolted).
This only becomes a problem if you leave your keys inside.
I had to break into my house once, which involved breaking open and partially dismantling (thank fuck I had my swiss army knife on me) the window frame..
