Was macready or childs infected at the end of the first film?

which one?
surely both wouldn't have been infected as they'd have both just merged / made sweet alien love with each other or something once everyone else was dead.

I have dreamt whole original films before
I just wish I could remember them, I am never sure if I actually dream the whole film or just certain scenes and then invent the back story as to how they got there and where they are going.

I dreamt a whole sequel to Eraserhead once
I often wished I could remember more of it, but I think perhaps the illusion of coherance and awesomeness is just a by-product of only half remembering it.
