that'll be the strychnene
it could be an urban myth, and i know snopes exists but i really can't be arsed with looking it up, but... acid is bonded to the blotting paper with strychnene, which makes the very top of your spine go a bit hurty for a while (or for a few years if you're me)

Yep it may be an urban myth.
Strychnine in TINY doses is a stimulant. Acid solution adsorbs to paper without it.
