This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

Guns... Give me Guns!
School Shooting team aged 8 to 11 using .22 Anschutz Rifles

Shotguns - Clay Pigeon - Used to shoot for the Cheshire under 21's. (I used to make my own cartridges and everything.)

Target Rifles - 5.56mm L85A1 (SA80 - Yes, the shit one!) Highest score at Sir John Moore Barracks with 286/300 at 300mtrs using Iron Sights NOT SUSAT

Heckler & Koch MP5 9mm (like the police use at the airport)

Beretta 92F 9mm Side arm.

I love them all individually, for different reasons.

(yes I'm Ex-Military)

I must be a bit of a geek/nerd
as I know these guns, but only through CC:S :P

Susat does feel like cheating, doesn't it?

Susat
is Cheating!

Well, on a range anyway - I suppose it has it's uses in the field.

My argument is/was if you couldn't hit things with Iron sights then you shouldn't be allowed to use Susats.

What if you were in the field and you smashed the lens? you'd be fucked that's what.

Although if you fell over with a L83A1 then the rifle would probably fall apart first.

Anschutz? Luxury....
BSA Martini from ages 14-16, then Vostok Match .22 (we wuz poor up North). Took me to 6th place at Bisley anyway (take that, Anschutz owners!).

Bit of a break while I explore the delights of parachuting, such as hitting the ground very hard.

Then back into clays (Beretta Silver Pigeon and Franchi semi-auto) plus Brocock pistol for fun, and then another .22 for flopsies. Oh, and a couple or nine air weapons.

Next, Lee Enfield. Iron sights, naturally.

(My missis is not impressed. Despite having photographic evidence of her blatting a 92F on holiday and thoroughly enjoying it, she thinks I'm daft. Again.)

I hated the SA80-
made about as well as a Kinder fucking Surprise toy; mine had the mag wired to the mount with gaffer tape because the release catch would let it go if you so much as looked at it sideways. It jammed all the time on the range as well. Sterling SMG FTW.

@osok - This could turn in to a war, but anyway...

I was up north too! Terra Nova School to be precise.

Winchester 101 over and under for my shotgun.
I did have a Beretta (not sure of the model) over and under but Dad sold it when I was 13 to buy the Winchester,

Air guns in order of purchase:

Webley Dianna .177
Webley Victor .22
Weihrauch HW77k .22
Weihrauch HW80 .22
BSA Supersport .25

Pistols:

Replica Beretta 92F Silver .177
and pride of place - A Webley Senior .22 that my God Father gave to me for my 10th Birthday (people were really irresponsible back then weren't they)

Crossbows:

Barnett trident pistol
Barnett Ranger.

I thinks that's it...

My Missus ain't impressed either, besides the fact we went on one of those over priced clay pigeon shoots for my mates 30th a couple of months ago and she got 7/26 not bad for a first timer.

shit!
Are you sure ya'll aren't from Texas?

....cause you sound like so many people I know....

Surely
You must also have owned a Black Widow or similar?

Barnett Diablo for me, and I bought a new Black Widow last year because there was a bit of a queue in the gunsmiths and my eyes wandered. (I had been looking at a 1916 SMLE .303 as well and was feeling a bit faint).

Webley Viscount back in the dim & distant, plus a couple of cheap & cheerful air pistols. Currently a CO2 92F somewhere, a Brocock in the safe (bloody Section One now), an old Spanish SBS for rough shoots, a Crosman rifle awaiting parts and for some strange reason a spear.

I have only ever sold one gun, to make space in the cabinet, and I still miss it.

And the missis wasn't bad on the clays either despite leaning too far back every damn time...

There's alway's
1 you forget! I'll have to dig it out, it's probably in the loft somewhere.

From what I remember mine had some sort of sighting system and balancing weights on it? I could be wrong, it's been 20years since I last saw it.

Must go find!!

Trying to persuade the better half that I need a Desert Eagle Blowback for the collection at the moment but apparently £104 looks better in the savings account for the time being, oh well!

I knew it!
Balancing weights? Sights?

Someone had fun with the optional extras...

The officially non-lethal 'practice' ammo gets a bit expensive though, but a boiled sweet makes an entertaining alternative as well as providing a nice sugary shrapnel effect.

In my defence
I was only young and when you're young with 6 mths worth of pocket money in your pocket looking around a gun shop in Chester, you spend the lot!
