No Self-Awareness
I had a boss who had no idea of his body odour problem, and everybody was too tactful to break it to him. Not so a visiting Rev Ian Paisley: "What the blazes is that smell? Is it you?" That sorted it. Stories of people blissfully unaware of their bad smells, bad manners and foghorn voices.

I don't think he hates them, I think he is afraid of them because he doesn't know how to have a conversation with one that isn't offering her drugs in exchange for wearing a Yoda mask and sticking a starscream up her megatron.

I don't think he hates them per se,
He just struggles with the whole 'relating to them as people' thing, due to his Transformers-focussed Aspergers and breathtaking lack of self-awareness. It's more funny than creepy.
Just.

I get the impression he's the kind of bloke who'd wind up getting himself accused and convicted of rape if he had a one-night stand.

I'm sure if he nipped down Ikea he'd be able to buy one nightstand.
