The Dark Knight
just got back. fuck me it's good.

comes to something when the worst part of a film is Christian Bale, and he was pretty good.

We lost a hell of an actor in Heath Ledger.

I know what you mean
I was left thinking that heath ledger was excellent, but also thinking that the next film won't be as good.

a shame really. I did thoroughly enjoy it though

Agreed.
Bale was pretty 1-D but Heath Ledger was great. Michael Caine looked like he "phoned it in".

It was alright
Admittedly I was tired and went to a late night showing. Admittedly also, I was roused from a near red-wine-coma to do so but it just wasn't that good. The Bat was hardly on the screen. The joker popped in and out like a neighbour borrowing some sugar. Did Harveydentcommissionergordonracheldawes really have that pivotal a role to play to justify them taking up most of the film. And the light! The light seemed to be the most important character there was that much time spent standing talking bollox next to it.

Fair enough, when Bale and Ledger were on screen, they were ace. There just wasnt enough of them.

I thought the pacing
was excellent. It really was like a couple of films intertwined.

***AHEAD BE SPOILERS***

It's a bit too long though. By the end, my arse was completely numb and I felt a little disappointed that the final bad guy was killed off... I was kind of hoping that he would be introduced and then go on to become the key baddie in the sequel, but alas, twas not to be.

Did anyone else find it rather dark and disturbing for a 12A certificate film? Perhaps I'm just getting more sensitive as I teeter towards 30... kids today probably just laugh at the thought of the Joker having his mouth torn open. Made me feel a bit queasy though.

Im not done with this
The toys; Batman is all about kickarse toys. So what has he got in this film? A fucking motorbike. WooHoo! It goes fast. Well done Chris! So it does the flippy over thing. Once. Yay. Also, the wristband shooting spikes which he uses over a distance of about 8 inches. Big deal. What did I miss? I dont think I nodded off.

@Chart cat
I agree with your point about it being a bit too long... just as I thought it was all going to be neatly wrapped up with the baddie established for the sequel, it went on, and then on a bit more.

That said, watching it with a hang over probably didn't help a great deal.

see, I didn't feel like it went on too long at all
*spoilers*

and I've always found two-face to be a bit of a shit bad guy anyway so I was glad he bought it at the end of this one.

there are plenty of quality batman bad guys to choose from for the next film, but really the Joker is the one for me and I'm sad to think that because Heath Ledger was so good that the next film won't be as good as this one.

hope that's not the case though

Quality Throughout
I got the impression that this film was a 'proper' attempt at starting the franchise again, without all that kiddie-friendly soft-comedy crap that seems to permiate the industry.
I know the previous Batman films had their place, but there are few entertaining films for adults that aren't just splatter or sex (or both).
Of course, I could have explained myself by just saying "there weren't any Ewoks in this".
