Blimey! I just told my boss I wasn't coming in tomorrow
because I'm sick of taking up the slack at work, I'm doing stuff that I need other departments to help me with and why the hell can't they do it themselves. Oh, and boss, you know how you take a "focus day" every week to figure out your priorities, I'm taking one tomorrow.

Details in reply.

In the last year,
we've gone from 15 employees to 4.
I was originally hired as the executive assistant to the CEO (the boss), but as we've laid more people off, those of us left have been taking up the slack. Fair enough, I have no problem packing units, adding extras to orders, dealing with gnarly customers.
What I have a problem with is taking a manual paycheck and staggering it so everyone else gets paid on payday (not that the other 3 know that), but being expected to do 3 other peoples jobs and when I ask for help from the other three they tell me "not my job".
All the time while they're talking a day off to take the dog to get neutered, spending half a day on eBay 'cos his jeans don't fit, taking a day unpaid each week to go snowboarding.

So I bitched at my boss about it tonight..........his response?

"I know I've been putting too much on you and was expecting this 2 months ago. Take the day off tomorrow, formulate a plan to re-distribute workloads and we'll discuss it over breakfast on Thursday. And make sure you turn your fishing receipt in for reimbursement"

Len, you're fucking ace!

I like the sound of your boss
Mine might just be getting his sodding cat together... we'll see.

Edit: predictive typo, but I like it, so it stays :)

My boss is rather awesome,
but can be intimidating.

I'm his "right hand woman" but have never put my foot down as far as what I do for the company goes.
I'm just sooooo stressed, tired and fed up of teh situation right now that I need to take the time to focus and get us back in the right direction.

While we're work related...
Was wondering if now is a good time to up sticks and move to the city.

And also can I apply for jobs putting my current job on my C.V. without the company I'm applying for getting in touch with my current boss?

I.e. apply for new jobs in secret....

I think you can: in most job applications you give two references. Generally, since one ref tends to be your current boss, you can stipulate that this referee should not be contacted until a job offer has been made. I think.

Yeah I was planning on using the current job as a reference. In which case if they were contacted all hell would break loose.

Your references can't (or at least shouldn't) be contacted without your permission. So you can stipulate that your current employer is not to be contacted until such a time as you have had (and even accepted) an offer of employment.

Any other Qs, feel free to gaz me! :) Good luck!

My boss is a biblical-scale cunt
but I've gone from hating my job to being glad I have one at all, of late.

Amazing what a perspective shift can do for one's day to day existence.

*still hates boss's guts*
