This is a question Advice from Old People

Sometimes, just sometimes, old people say something worth listening to. Ok, so it's like picking the needle out of a whole haystack of mis-remembered war stories, but those gems should be celebrated.

Tell us something worthwhile an old-type person has told you.

Note, we're leaving the definition of old up to you, you smooth-skinned youngsters.

Top tip from a seasoned archaeologist
Push a full wheelbarrow, pull an empty one.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 19:57, 24 replies)
I think that comment
is just asking for a reference to Enzyme being an empty wheelbarrow isn't it!
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:03, closed)
Empty ones tend to bounce around
especially on rough ground. Presumably that's why you'd want the thing bouncing behind you rather than risk a smack in the shin/knee/somewhere?

edit: chcb, you really can't let al go unpunished for that remark. Smite him!
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:03, closed)
well
@TWW - that's exactly right

@al - you disgust me with your perverted insinuations! Wherever did you get such a sick idea?
*smites*
*deletes those photos from Thursday evening*

*defends against smiting by making the sign of teh cock*

Did you see that becky-consonants is organizing another london bash in November?
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:11, closed)
Ooh I got clever all of a sudden
.
don't worry, it'll soon wear off

*laughs and points at the smited al*
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:11, closed)
I did see that
and a Northern bash on 1st November too, up in that there Manchester.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:12, closed)

Now, where could you stay if you were to go to Manchester?

*strokes beard*

*drums fingers*

Nope, i'm clueless.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:13, closed)
I surely am
and want everyone to come...Oh wait Innuendo was last week.

Would be great to see everyone there :)
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:14, closed)
Aaaaaaaaaaargh
*sees "Northern Bash" mentioned*

*checks calendar*

*realises that to some people, Manchester is north, not south*

*cries*

There should be a b3ta QOTW long weekend, because I didn't get a chance to properly talk to everybody on Thursday.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:18, closed)
oh poor TWW
Are you going to the Edinburgh bash?
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:20, closed)
@al
yes. yes I am. With bells on. No clothes, just bells. So you can all hear me coming as it were.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:23, closed)
I propose
a b3ta camping trip. With a fire and everything.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:24, closed)
*waves arm in air*
Oh! Oh! Me! Me! I'm going! Me! Edinburgh! Me! Oh!

Edit: *seconds camping trip idea*
Does '2 man tent' mean it has to have two men in it?
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:24, closed)
A b3ta camping trip
could be so much fun.

Ooooo! PJM is going to a beer festival in colchester in september, I'm thinking of going for a couple of days, we could have our camping trip then! That would be ace!
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:25, closed)
@CHCB
It can have two men in it, as long as there is a bonus woman too.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:27, closed)
you lot can go camping,
I'll find a hotel nearby. Unless they've invented a tent with en-suite bathroom, electrical sockets and central heating.

@chcb, yes, you MUST have two men or the tent explodes. Up to you how many women, though.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:28, closed)
I have two trangias
a 5 man tent, and a kettle.

And I done my duke of edinburgh and everything.

Camping and beer festival sounds like a plan.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:28, closed)
hmmm,
but which two?

*ponders*
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:29, closed)
you can see
PJMs thing here .

I'm not certain I can make it yet, but would quite like to try to get there at least on the friday, but possibly staying until sunday.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:30, closed)
does 'beer'
mean 'real ale'? I'm still recovering from The Great Two Days of Vomiting And Feeling Like Death after the last time I had a few too many of that. It's not a natural drink for an Irish type.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:32, closed)
It generally does
but at the beer festival I went to in london they had a wide selection of lagers and white beers available, so not always.

And Ireland makes some astounding ales, Kilkenny is one of my favourite drinks, and I wish it got exported, I've never seen it in the UK sorry, England, and only get to drink it when I've been to Dublin.
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:36, closed)
yes
but we drink our ales cold and fizzy.

*craves Smithwicks*
(, Sat 21 Jun 2008, 20:37, closed)
I've signed up
to PJM's camping thing. I used to live above a camping shop, so I'm sure I have a tent and sleeping bag somewhere.

Off to continue the painting project now
