A friend was once given a biopsy by a sleep-deprived junior doctor.
They needed a sample of his colon, so inserted the long bendy jaws-on-the-end thingy, located the suspect area and... he shot through the ceiling. Doctor had forgotten to administer any anaesthetic.

My mum refused to believe I had appendicitis either. The only good thing about the experience was being able to wake my mum up at 3 a.m. to smile sweetly at her through the pain, hold up the phone and say: "Mum, the lady from NHS Direct wants to send an ambulance for me, but I told her that you'd drive me to the hospital. That's ok, isn't it?". She still feels guilty about that one.
