Why did she do that?

Difficult to tell.
She died more than twenty years ago and spent the last few days in incoherent agony or monged out on morphine so nobody really got a chance to ask.

Perhaps she was a fucking idiot. Perhaps she forgot. There's only one thing for certain: she dead.

At least she didn't die in vain.
She'd probably be glad that her agonising death provided a brief diversion for a few bored people.
