Could you have walked to the car, driven back to the house, then picked her up?10 minutes, tops.
(Also, first child - might explain the nervousness. Just think "what did people do in the old days". Even 20 years ago many fewer people had cars and they managed just fine. Ten minutes really isn't going to make a huge difference.)
