The best a position of power I've been in
was back in the olden days of the mid '90's when I was DM-ing a D&D quest involving four of my friends at the time. Saying things like 'Oooh, bad luck, the arrow hits you in the eye and you lose your last hit point' made me smile inside.

I recently ran an OD&D game.
10 character deaths between 5 players.

It wasn't my fault though.

I've been gamesmaster, Keeper, DM etc for variolus games and systems.
and towards the end just took to rolling some dice, made a play of looking at notes or tables and made arbitrary decision about the fate of the players, or just nodding and smiling to myself...

Back in the days when I DM'd,
I used to love that bit.
I thought random choices were for wimps, and never as much fun as just thinking up the worst possible outcome of any event. Think up shit. Blame the dice.
