A friend of minegave up smoking and Drinking for a whole year to show he had power over the habit, rather than the other way round.
New years eve to New Years eve.
He went all the way, then at 00:01 new years day, downed a pint and lit a biff.
He was hammered in 45 mins.
He still smokes and drinks to this day.

if it didn['t have power over himwhy would he want to go back on it so soon. Sounds like it has all the power; but he doesn't know it. The worst kind.

Thator he enjoys those activities and would rather enjoy his life than prolong it as much as possible? He obviously had the power to choose when he wanted to enjoy smoking/drinking, and successfully showed that if he doesn't want to then he wouldn't be forced to by addiction. Lots of people couldn't manage that.
