Racist?
How is it racist, exactly? The term refers to the habit of unspecified travelling types/economic groupings who in the past tended to aggregate at turnpikes. Whilst there, they did not evolve into a separate race. I'm virtually certain of this.

So go on - how is it 'racist'? Is it also racist to refer to people as 'poor', 'mobile', 'bipedal', or whatever other bullshit flitters across your outrage-o-tron at any given point?

The only people who get offended by the term 'pikey' are people whose opinion doesn't really matter; specifically - PC idiots, and pikeys.
