My godfather is a British stereotype; a relic of the long-forgotten empire.
When he was 18 and applying to university, he was asked if he did sport.
He replied "I shoot, and I fish, but I do not hunt."
They said they rather meant rugby and football.
"Oh!" He replied, "You mean games ... "

I like the idea of
Paying professional footballers £20 a week and a good meal. We might win a world cup then...The 1966 winning team were on hardly any money and often lived next door to the very fans that supported them.
