Was given the nickname "Flash" ( Maybe by Thomas Beecham? who knows? ). When Beecham heard that Sargent was going to give a concert in Tokyo he retorted "Ah, Flash in Japan!" His views on the harpsichord were well known, he once compared the sound as "Like two skeletons copulating in a dustbin! "
