Regret sucks.You don't need to hear my story, but I want you to know that it's possible to come through this and be the better person, then find someone who will love you unconditionally, regardless of the mistakes your past contains.
One word of advice though - don't try to go back and apologise. It'll make no difference to your ex, and it won't make you feel any better. At best it'll make you look a fool while re-opening old wounds for her/him.
At worst, it'll make you spend the next six months destroying your liver because you didn't get the absolution you were looking for and you didn't make her/him feel any better about it either.
