NZis held up as the model PC country to Americans, all beautiful and flowery and non-killing of their aboriginies, Waitanga Treaty and all that. Iamgine my surprise when people would say THE most racist crap! I was floored.
My daughter got punched when she told a Maori kid who was bragging about being so black and tough, "Look, I'm from Detroit. Believe me, you are NOT black."

They embrace the maori culture for PC reasons and also for branding, but there is deep seated multi-directional inter-generational racism there.
