Did you eschew the delights of elucidating the vernacular?
I've only read one of his books - A Song Of Stone, as my (sirrius) writing was compared with it. I quite enjoyed it.

I hate to agree
But I also found song of stone to be a pretty low point in his writing.
As ever it's nicely structured and to some extent it tells a story. Unfortunately the story it tells is unremittingly grim, and really just doesn't go anywhere.
In precis.
"The world is a violent and horrible place in which everyone who you might have any sympathy with will be die in a degrading and futile manner."
