I worked for Makro in the summer of 1996.
Awful company - but being at the bottom of the chain had its advantages. Supervisors were expected to put in "loyalty time" - basically, unpaid overtime - to demonstrate loyalty to the company.
Rather as people in North Korea are expected to cry on cue to show loyalty to the Dear Leader, I guess.
